Valley Wind
“… saw below me the golden valley, I said. ‘God blessed America for me.’ ”
Due to the remote location of Susan’s studio and the added social isolation caused by the world wide pandemic. Inspired by a recently released video by The Avett Brothers of the classic Woody Guthrie song, “This Land is Your Land.” Susan found that she wanted to slow down her creative process. She returned to slowly mixing paints to reflect the beauty of nature and the places she cherishes by making a series of small works in oils.
Each painting is 8” x 10” on 5/8” stretcher that tells the story of the land’s love affair with the light perhaps imbued with memories of a person who shared the view. Susan has always been drawn to the light and nature during times of challenge. These paintings are full of the gratitude of walking with friends, a sunrise, a first snow, meandering ribbons of highway, waving fields, mountain vistas dogs, and the diversity that surrounds us. She is offering them to you.
We do our best to match the color of paintings and frames, both on our website photography and in any printed materials, but differences in technology may affect the appearance of the photo on your screen. EASELS are not included with your artwork and are used only to invoke the sense of the studio. Please use our contact page if you want information on obtaining an easel to display your painting.
This Wooden Floater Frames creates the illusion that the artwork is “floating” within the frame in a sea of black instead of being covered by it — perfect since Susan always paints the edges of her work no matter the depth of the canvas. The Gold Crackle frame achieves its distinctive appearance via a special burnishing technique and was selected to add a subtle elegance and respect to these landscapes while not overpowering the painting or other objects d’arte in your home.
